Translanguaging and reading comprehension in a second language

The current study examined the impact of translanguaging on second language reading comprehension. involved an experimental and a control group. participants in group (n = 38) were offered four opportunities to engage Arabic – their first comprehending text English. These occasions for included: (a) receiving glosses (i.e., only meaning) key terms text, (b) employing summarizing paragraphs from passage, (c) using discussion comparing summaries with peers, (d) consulting meanings (provided) while attempting vocabulary items. After aforesaid steps, this required answer 22 comprehension questions three types: main idea, cloze reading, word/synonyms. 29) completed all same stages as but language, without recourse language. findings revealed no significant difference between two groups, t (63) −1.84, p .85. Also, was observed any types questions. Theoretical pedagogical implications are discussed.
